2020 Chardonnay, Cellar Note
New to the cuvee, is a 20+ year old vineyard on Burnside Road, within the Sebastopol hills. Planted to the Martini clone, a favorite of winemaker Joe Nielsen, the vineyard is situated in a cool climate area that struggles to ripen in most vintages. The Martini clone itself is even more difficult to ripen with its larger clusters and naturally high acid.
The wine opens with notes of spring meadow, apple, and fennel—a hallmark characteristic from Flax Vineyard. The weight and concentration of the Flax Vineyard beautifully marries with the driving acid from the Burnside Road Vineyard. Clean and precise, this wine has the building blocks to be a terrific aging Chardonnay. Delicious today, the wine is young and will continue to evolve over the next decade.
